Who We Are

CELI is run by a small, focused team and governed by a Board of Trustees.

Executive Leadership

Jennifer Ugwueze – Executive Director, CELI

Jennifer Ugwueze

Co-Founder and Executive Director

Jennifer leads CELI's operations, programme delivery, fundraising, and partnerships, and she represents the organisation to funders, government, and partner institutions.

She co-founded CELI and shaped its early programme design, including its approach of combining solar-powered agrovoltaics with a low-bandwidth SMS advisory service, so that smallholder households can generate power and grow food on the same land while getting practical farming guidance by phone.

Jennifer holds a degree in Geology from the University of Port Harcourt, which grounds CELI's work in the land and climate conditions its projects depend on. She has completed training in energy transition with IFP School, along with project management and risk management, and she brings more than five years in operations, stakeholder coordination, and compliance and reporting. She has represented CELI at the ImpactHER Global Africa Women's Sustainability Conference in Abuja, and she works to keep women and young people at the centre of Nigeria's energy transition. She is based in Abuja and works in English and Igbo.

Board of Trustees

Peter Banigo – Chair, Board of Trustees, CELI

Peter Banigo

Co-Founder and Chair, Board of Trustees

Peter chairs CELI's Board of Trustees in a non-executive role, setting strategic direction and providing governance oversight. Day to day leadership and funder engagement sit with the Executive Director.

He is an engineer and energy professional with more than fifteen years in renewable energy, procurement, and technology across Nigeria and the United Kingdom. He holds a master's degree in Petroleum and Environmental Technology from Coventry University and a degree in Natural Gas Engineering from the University of Port Harcourt, where his final-year project designed a low-cost biogas digester to replace firewood and kerosene in rural households.

He is NEBOSH certified and a registered environmental professional, and he has mentored early-stage entrepreneurs through the Tony Elumelu Foundation.

Governance

CELI is governed by a Board of Trustees that sets the organisation's strategy and holds management to account. The Board oversees finances, safeguarding, and conflict of interest management, and it meets regularly through the year.

The Board is chaired by Peter Banigo, with day to day operations led by the Executive Director. Further trustee profiles will be added as the Board is finalised. Governance documents are available to funders and partners on request.
